Asking Your First Question
This is the core of AskThePlans. Ask a plain-English question about your project documents and get a source-backed answer in seconds — with references to the exact files the AI used.
Step-by-step guide
- 1
Ask your first question
You can ask any question using the input box in the middle of the screen or the Ask The Plans button on the left side. There are also example questions on the screen to give you an idea of what you can ask once your plans are uploaded. Try asking something like: What is the slab type?
- 2
Watch AskThePlans build the answer
You'll see the assistant working through a few stages — understanding your question, searching the project files, then building the answer. AskThePlans analyses every page of your documents, extracting text, reading diagrams, and indexing everything so it can answer accurately.
- 3
Ask before processing is complete
Once a file is uploaded, you can start asking questions even while it's still being processed. As the file gets through more stages, responses will become more accurate. If AskThePlans identifies documents that are likely needed but not yet uploaded, it will suggest which files to add — and you can upload them without leaving the page.
- 4
Switch AI agents for different perspectives
AskThePlans has different AI agents tuned for different roles. For example, Site Decision gives short, direct on-site answers. Compliance Check focuses on strict code compliance. You can switch agents per conversation from the conversation settings. When you request a second opinion, all opinions are attached to the original question and you can cycle through them using the arrow buttons.
- 5
Review sources and open the original page
Every answer links back to the exact document page it came from. Click any file reference to open the Response Source panel, which shows the documents and pages used to generate the response. From there, you can navigate between pages, zoom in and out, or download a specific page to share with someone on site.
- 6
Explore follow-ups and organise conversations
AskThePlans learns from your questions and suggests follow-ups so you can explore different angles of the issue at hand. Use the New Conversation button to organise conversations by question, team member, or category — however works best for you.
